Arts and Crafts hand held Sorrento mirror
Arts and Crafts period, made of tulip wood and hand-painted designs.
From Sorrento, a small town in Campania, southern Italy.
Since the early 19th century, inlay, painted and marquetry wooden goods were made in Sorrento to a very skilled and fine quality. The artisan tradition is however slowing down today as young people are not interested in maintaining the craft.
This mirror is beautifully hand carved and painted with scrolling motifs, griffins and angel faces. On one side there is a mirror and on the other a photograph of a handsome Marine officer has been affixed.
