This oil on canvas has an interesting label at the back which reads Batchelars, the depository, Croydon Mrs Sandford). Batchelars, the Depository in Croydon, was a well-known storage facility that played a significant role in the early 20th century. Established as a depository for storing goods, Batchelars offered a secure and reliable space for both individuals and businesses to store their possessions. The facility was likely equipped with modern amenities of the time to ensure the safety and preservation of items, ranging from personal belongings to commercial stock.
