COBALT BLUE
Cobalt blue is a vibrant pigment that has been cherished in art and industry for centuries. It's origins trace back to ancient times when the early Egyptians and Chinese used cobalt compounds to create rich blue glazes for pottery and ceramics. However, it was not until the early 19th century that cobalt blue, as we know it today, was synthesised. In 1802, the French chemist Louis Jacques Thénard discovered the process of creating a stable and intense blue pigment by roasting cobalt salts with alumina. This new pigment quickly gained popularity among artists for it's brilliant hue and excellent permanence, becoming a staple in the palettes of renowned painters such as Vincent van Gogh and Claude Monet.
