Finely woven bamboo, covered in thitsi lacquer in an orange-red, circa 1900-1930
Diam : 7.5 cm and H 7.7 cm
These lovely cylindrical boxes with a little interior tray were made to contain ingredients needed for betel nut chewing (a mild stimulant). The box would have been offered to guests upon a visit as a sign of hospitality.
The design is called ku-nan-kan-byat (Yunnan semicircle with interlocking form)
