This gorgeous brooch features a delicate arrangement of flowers and leaves, crafted in luminous pâte de verre—a technique known for its soft, translucent glow and jewel-like finish. Possibly American and attributed to Leo Glass, it likely dates from the mid-1940s, a period celebrated for its romantic and expressive costume jewellery.
Pâte de verre, meaning “glass paste” in French, is an ancient glassmaking technique in which finely ground glass is mixed with a binder, packed into a mold, and then fired at a low temperature. The result is a rich, textured surface with subtle variations in colour and opacity—ideal for capturing the organic beauty of botanical forms. The craftsmanship suggests both artistry and innovation, making this brooch a striking and collectible piece of vintage adornment.

I have been working in the Art and Antiques field for more than 30 years. I have a BA/Masters degree in Art History from the Ecole du Louvre in Paris and Oxford University and worked with a high end dealer in London for many years as well as a display of Art firm.
