Original textile design Bouquet
Feature
ONE OF A KIND
Textile design from the Bianchini Ferier archive, Lyon, France, circa 1922
This is the Art Deco interpretation of à much loved early 18th c technique called Chiné à la branche. It was a technique for dyeing silk close to the ikat. It was an expensive way to dye textiles where the warp thread was bound and then was dyed in various colours- a pattern emerging and giving the fabric this slight blurry effect. The Art Deco period really looked back on techniques of the past finding ways to recreate them cheaper.
gouache on paper with pencil marks- the design has been folded because it’s « working drawing » used to create a beautiful silk pattern.
Coral mount 70 x50 cl (window 46 x 39 cm)
