ONE OF A KIND
This fine vintage shallow bowl with beautiful exotic birds is crafted from moulded white opalescent glass and bears a moulded signature, reading "P.D. Avesn France". It likely dates from the period he worked independently 1926-30.

Pierre d’Avesn (1901–1984)(Pierre Girre- his real name) was a pivotal figure in the evolution of French Art Deco glass design. Trained at the esteemed Ecole des Arts Décoratifs, d’Avesn began his career at just 14, working under René Lalique. Although he contributed to many iconic Lalique designs, company policy prevented him from signing his own work.
In 1926, d’Avesn left Lalique to pursue an independent career, creating around 30 pieces produced by Cristallerie de Saint-Rémy. He later worked for Daum under their "Lorrain" label, then moved to Verlys during the 1930s. Despite interruptions caused by WWII, d’Avesn continued designing into the 1950s and '60s, including work for Vannes-le-Châtel.
Some of these pieces would have been used to create plafonniers (light fixtures) which would have looked amazing with the light shinning through.
This antique glass opalescent "Birds" bowl by Pierre D'Avesn features a unique design and stunning opalescent colouring. With only a few minor scratches and a couple of tiny blemishes, this piece is in excellent condition. Perfect for collectors or as a statement piece in any home.
