The lid is adorned with fruiting branches (possibly apples) , while each side displays a different botanical study—including flowers, ferns, clover, and thistle—making this a truly distinctive piece of folk craftsmanship.

The deeply carved relief and textured background showcase the work of a skilled artisan, and the warm, aged patina adds to its character and charm. With its variety of garden-inspired carvings, this may have been created as a gardener’s keepsake box or simply as a decorative storage chest celebrating the natural world. What's for sure is that the carver intentionally created a botanical study rather than a repeating decorative pattern.
Crafted from solid hardwood, this box is decorated with exceptional hand-carved botanical reliefs on every side and the lid. The designs were carved using traditional gouges and chisels, with a finely stippled background that enhances the depth of the relief. Visible hand-tool marks and a beautifully aged patina speak to the craftsmanship and authenticity of the piece. The richly carved fruit, flowers, ferns, clover, and foliage create a striking celebration of the natural world, making this an outstanding example of traditional folk carving.
Perfect for storing letters, sewing supplies, keepsakes, photographs, or treasured collections, it also makes a striking decorative accent for a cottage, English country, Arts & Crafts, or rustic interior.

I have been working in the Art and Antiques field for more than 30 years. I have a BA/Masters degree in Art History from the Ecole du Louvre in Paris and Oxford University and worked with a high end dealer in London for many years as well as a display of Art firm.
How quickly will my item arrive?
