Brass frame with original Art Deco textile "shirting design"
A brass frame with an original Art Deco design sample for a shirt created for the celebrated A. Sirooni Company of New York, dating from the 1920s–1950s. Featuring delicate geometric repeats, rhythmic linear motifs and finely balanced colour palettes, these miniature works beautifully capture the elegance and modernism of the Deco era. I wanted to give them a new life by putting them on handmade marble paper and framing them in small brass frames. Perfect as a single piece or a small collection.
Produced primarily in France on commission for Sirooni New York, many of the artists behind these designs were Parisian creatives immersed in the flourishing Art Deco movement and influenced by progressive European workshops such as the Wiener Werkstätte. Intended for wallpaper, textiles and luxury gift wrapping, each design was originally hand-rendered in gouache.
These surviving samples possess sophistication — part archive, part artwork — and feel remarkably contemporary today. Their refined geometry and gorgeous palette s make them perfect for collectors, interior designers, stylists and lovers of decorative arts history.
frame size 10 x 15 cms - please note I have not stuck the design down onto the marble paper so if you decide to do something else with it one day!
