60’s Dutch retractable pencil designs

£70

One of a kind. When it’s gone, it’s gone.

The piece

A striking example of 1960s Dutch industrial design, this retractable pencil reflects the period’s fascination with precision engineering, functionalism, and beautifully considered everyday objects.

The streamlined, elongated form combines a retractable pencil mechanism, tapered nose and integrated pocket clip in a remarkably clean silhouette. Its understated geometry and mechanical detailing give it the distinctive character of mid-century European design—where practicality was elevated through thoughtful form and proportion.

The three accompanying original designs drawings offer a fascinating insight into the development of the piece, showing the pencil being carefully worked out by hand with measurements and construction details.
