Print of a Pileated Parakeet from W.T. Greene's "Parrots in Captivity
Feature
ONE OF A KIND
This hand-coloured woodblock print stands out for it's stunning colours and intricately detailed features. It is believed to be the work of Benjamin Fawcett, possibly with the help of his former apprentice Alexander Francis Lydon, who provided illustrations for W.T. Greene's book "Parrots in Captivity" when it was first published in 1884.
Showcasing vibrant hues and fine details, this hand-coloured wood engraving is a valuable reference for those keeping parrots as pets.
The Pileated Parrot, also known as Red-capped Parrot (Pionopsitta pileata), is a species native to southeastern Brazil, eastern Paraguay and northeastern Argentina.
It comes framed in a vintage gold frame with a dusty blue mount and gold accents. Despite its age, the frame remains in excellent condition, measuring 34.5 x 28 cms. slight mottling in the right hand corner of the print.
